LEDYARD SOCCER CLUB PLAYING TIME POLICY
In general, subject to mitigating circumstances, all players must be allowed to play at least 50% of every game. This rule is in effect for all players on both Classic and Rec. Plus teams where this is the only team on which the player is rostered and participating. When a player is playing on Classic and Rec. Plus teams, his playing time on his dedicated team must be a minimum of 50%, and on the double-rostered team a minimum of 10%. The 10% rule is only a lower limit to give coaches flexibility to adjust to dynamic game time conditions. In general it is anticipated that playing time should be substantially greater than 10% under most normal circumstances.
Mitigating factors: The 50% playing time rule is subject to mitigating factors, such as the willingness of the player to participate when asked, arrival on time to the game, the occurrence of injury or illness that might limit playing time, or the presence of more than a full set of substituting players. If more than a full set of substitutes is present, playing time should be as balanced as is reasonably possible. Given the sometimes complex and difficult prospect of orchestrating large numbers of unlimited substitutions minor unintentional variations from the 50% rule may occasionally occur, as such they will be considered trifling and not meriting board consideration unless they indicate a consistent pattern of repeated offense.
Goalkeepers: It is a violation of the spirit of the 50% rule for a player to be played 50% of the game only as a goalkeeper. Such a player should be given balanced field time when not serving the team as goalkeeper.
